Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Carla Maia, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) Coordinator
National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15th to October 15th and celebrates the achievements and influences of Hispanic and Latino individuals and communities in various fields such as art, literature, music, science, politics, and more. Find out more about this commemoration's history, as well as related book selections which can be found in the EB Library.
Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates and highlights the achievements and influences of Hispanic and Latino individuals and communities in various fields such as art, literature, music, science, politics, and more. These celebrations also emphasize the rich cultural diversity and traditions of the Hispanic and Latino communities, which encompass a wide range of backgrounds, languages, and experiences. It's a time to recognize the positive impact that Hispanic and Latino Americans have made in shaping the nation's history and society.

The dates for Hispanic Heritage Month were chosen to coincide with the Independence Day celebrations of many Latin American nations — Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua — that declared their independence from Spain on September 15, 1821.

Pepe and the Parade : A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage (Tracey Kyle), Bravo!: Poems About Amazing Hispanics (Margarita Engle) and Dreams From Many Rivers: A Hispanic History of the United States Told in Poems (Margarita Engle) are just some of the amazing books you can find in our EB Libraries that elevate Hispanic voices and experiences.
