Enrichment & Aftercare

Enrichment at EB takes place outside of the classroom and is an integral part of a student’s full school day. In addition to providing supportive and engaging play-based recess, the Enrichment team provides care before school starts and after classes are released, and offers multiple options for activities and clubs after school. In the preschool, Enrichment staff is incorporated into the classroom and is part of the daily lunch routine.

Clubs & Afterschool

EB offers a wide range of after-school enrichment classes for students from preschool to middle school. Class offerings vary by semester and include sports, science, visual arts, music, cooking and language classes. Some after-school activities are conducted in French. These classes are offered on a trimester-basis at an additional cost which varies depending on the activity.

This year we are offering a variety of classes for preschool (PS/ MS only) through 8th such as Jiu Jitsu, Drawing, Finance Literacy, Tennis, Yoga, Minecraft  and Music. These classes require an additional fee and sign-ups will begin on the first day of school. Our preschool classes have capacity limits due to legal ratio laws. In order to create a more equitable process for parents to sign up, all families that are interested and registered will be chosen through a lottery process.

At the Middle School, students can choose among about a dozen clubs offered on a rotation basis every trimester. Those clubs all take place on Friday afternoon, they are free and mandatory, and allow students to explore a specific interest or develop a skill set in a small group setting. Clubs are mostly led by teachers, though some are students-led and include yearbook, eco-gardening, mindfulness, or robotics.

Before & After Care

Our Extended Day program operates between 7:30–8:15 a.m. and 3:30–6:00 p.m. for lower school children. We offer several flexible options for Morning and Afternoon Care including an hourly, drop-in rate or packages that are cost-saving for families (see chart below). Learn more about tuition and fees.

Morning Care is supervised by teacher’s assistants and is separated by grades (Preschool and K-G5). Children participate in games, art or free play. When school begins, the students are taken to their instructor. Children are signed into aftercare at 3:30 pm. We provide them with a yummy organic snack and then dismiss them to Etude, Enrichment classes or free play.

Drop-in rate $10.92/hour (Tuition Assistance does not apply)
Extended Day Package $1,405/year (unlimited morning and afternoon care; Tuition Assistance does not apply)
School Breaks Package $930/year (unlimited day camps during school breaks October, February, April - does not include summer)

We have a new ICARE system to sign your child/ren out of aftercare and to sign-up for classes and camps.

Etude

Étude (French for Study Hall) is offered to Elementary School students three days a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00pm. Students are separated by grade and do their homework in a quiet atmosphere. Teachers are available to assist with some explanations.

Students in grades five through eight automatically go to Etude; students in grades one through four must sign up at the beginning of the semester. Deadline to sign-up this Fall: September 9.

Étude is billed at the same rate as Extended Day care ($10.92 an hour) and is included in the Extended Day Care package. For any questions about étude, please contact Elodie Resurreccion at eresurreccion@eb.org

Camps During School Breaks

List of 2 items.

  • Middle School Camps

Camps are now offered to middle schoolers during the breaks. In the fall, students enjoy great outdoor activities around the Bay such as sailing out of the Berkeley Marina, horseback riding in Marin, and whale watching out in the ocean. During winter break, students enjoy a week at a ski resort in Southern California.
  • Preschool and Lower School Camps

EB offers camps in English for currently enrolled students during the Fall, Winter and Spring breaks. Each camp has a theme such as “Recycle Reuse”, “Science”, “Circus”, “Sports”, “Animals”...etc that guide the learning and activities throughout the day. Depending on grade level, students will go on field trips such as the Exploratorium, the Oakland Zoo, Muir Beach, Head over Heels Gymnastics. New this year: we are offering camps for middle school students.
