Overview

L’Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley offers its students not only a well-balanced program that combines the best of the French and American educational approaches, but also a wide range of services to enrich their educational experience.

Pedagogical Structure at Ecole Bilingue.

The curriculum in each grade is fully integrated so that French and English instruction complement each other. The French educational system divides the primary grades into three cycles: Cycle 1 (preschool and K); Cycles 2 (Grades 1, 2 and 3), Cycle 3 (Grades 4, 5 and 6) and Cycle 4 (grades 7 and 8).

Each step is tailored for children’s individual development and language acquisition. Time spent inside the classroom is balanced by exploration of the surrounding community through our many field trips and our community service program.

And of course, we offer a full range of support to children and families: extended day care and after-school enrichment classes, counseling, individual support in French, learning specialist, and a bilingual library that all families can access.

Here are EB’s pedagogical tenets:

  • We believe in the power of bilingual education to open children’s minds to the interconnected world around them.
  • We believe in high academic standards… and in differentiated learning to support and challenge each child’s individual abilities, meeting them where they are and helping them to the next level.
  • We value hands-on experimentation, problem-solving, and collaboration.
  • We believe in technology as a tool for learning and engagement, and we actively teach digital citizenship.

These values—along with our balanced bilingual curriculum and our skilled, dedicated faculty—help us prepare your children to thrive as well-prepared, well-rounded adolescents and adults.
