EB’s Legacy of Joyous Learners Continues Via a Renovated Library

EB’s first library was located in the Little House, where it doubled as a classroom. Since its humble beginnings, the library has always played a central role in EB’s identity.
With the help of the Board of Trustees and dedicated parents like Vida Dorroh, EB’s first capital campaign was completed in 1984, allowing for construction of the second story of EB’s Lower School building and the first iteration of the current library.

In 2019, the family of Mary Havemann, former third grade English teacher at EB (1982-2007), approached the school to create a lasting legacy for their mother, and the Mary Havemann Library Fund was born.
After a prolonged renovation process thanks to the pandemic, the library was officially dedicated and renamed the Mary Havemann Library in 2023

  • The family of Mary Havemann, along with alumni families, contributed a total of $62,463 towards the renovation of the library, completed in January 2023.
  • The renovation included new carpeting, lights, painting, all new furniture, a reorganization of our bilingual books, and a dedicated amphitheater

The family of Alex Mills, EB alum class of 2009, in conjunction with friends and alumni, donated $15,100 for the construction of the Alex Mills amphitheater to honor Alex’s memory and love of reading.

The current library features over 12,000 books in French and English and is an extraordinary space for our students to discover a love of reading, explore new worlds and ideas, find comfort and friendship among the written word, and have a place to sit back and enjoy the quiet.
