In January, the EB community gathered at UC Berkeley’s Banatao Auditorium for the 11th annual TEDxEB Youth event, an evening of student voices, bold ideas, and community connection. This year’s theme, “We Are Change,” invited speakers and audience members to reflect on how change begins: through curiosity, courage, innovation, and action.

Head of School Sébastien Robert welcomed guests and framed the program around the power of agency in times of change. He reminded students that change is not only something that happens to us, but rather something we can help shape. Guest speaker and EB parent Alexandre Bayen, echoed the sentiment in his talk “Technology and Beyond: Change in the Interest of Society,” setting the tone for an evening centered on imagination, responsibility, and impact.

Student talks were organized into three segments: Design Change, Change Minds, and Equity Change. Speakers explored a wide range of questions, including whether AI will affect how students learn, the promise of electric planes, rural mobility, investigative journalism, mental health services in schools, shark conservation, public transportation, sexism in education, the shipping industry, bullying, and bioengineering for a sustainable world.
The event also showcased the strength of EB’s student leadership. Former TEDxEB Youth speakers returned as student producers, coaches and emcees, helping guide this year’s speakers through the process of shaping and presenting their ideas. Musical performances by the EB 5th Grade Choir, singing “A Million Dreams,” and the Middle School Choir, singing “On écrit sur les murs,” added moments of beauty and reflection throughout the evening.

TEDxEB Youth is one of EB’s signature Middle School programs, and this year’s event once again demonstrated the confidence, creativity, and care our students bring to meaningful public speaking. We are grateful to Sue Campbell, our student producers, production assistants, coaches, performers, faculty and staff, production team, facilities and logistics teams, organizers, and sponsors CITRIS and Vigneron Imports for making the evening possible.

Most of all, congratulations to our student speakers. Their talks remind us that change does not only belong to the future. It begins with the voices, questions, and choices of young people today.
