EB Speakers Reach New Heights in Bilingual Debate Competition

By Fabien Lombard, Middle School Head

For a second year, EB students proudly took part in Ambassadeurs et Ambassadrices en Herbe (AAEH), the French version of Model UN, organized by the French Embassy and centered around the theme of La Francophonie.

The journey began on February 12, 2025, with the Finale Établissement held right here at Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley. Students from 5th and 6th grade delivered powerful, thought-provoking speeches, and five outstanding students were selected to move on to the next round, representing EB: one from 5th grade, one from 6th, and an impressive three more from 7th!

The excitement continued with the Final Practice on March 3, 2025, hosted by The International School of San Francisco. There, our students joined peers from French schools across the Bay Area to rehearse under near-final conditions—an amazing opportunity to sharpen their public speaking skills and connect with other young ambassadors.

The adventure culminated on March 28, 2025, with the North America Final held at the Lycée International de Boston in Cambridge, MA. Our EB representatives participated in high-level debates alongside students from across the continent—and made it all the way to the quarterfinals! Their poise, passion, and teamwork made us incredibly proud.

Bravo to our young ambassadors for their dedication and eloquence!
