Growing With The Gardens: Fall 2024

Florence Joliff, EB Garden Specialist
Our beautiful school garden, intertwined throughout the lower school campus, is always a vibrant and joyful place, where young minds cultivate knowledge alongside nature's bounty. Enjoy this collection of moments from Garden specialist, Florence Joliff, including lessons on seed cultivations, the history of artichokes, flower pressing and, of course, many delicious tastings along the way.
September
It was a bountiful harvest of many different seeds from our garden this month. Radish seeds and flaxseeds took center stage, as students learned about Rouissage du lin and the process of separating a seed from its pod, but tomato tasting seemed the most delicious way to experience the fall garden!

September came to a close with a fabulous Artichoke week! There were discussions of the artichoke's origin, history, geography and of course, a gourmet artichoke tasting (including creme fraiche!).

October
October's cooler temperatures brought milkweed and parsley seeds, expertly collected by attentive Kindergarteners.

From collecting the campus peaches, to weeding, to a delightful coriander seed tasting, the Fall EB garden has been full of joy and smiles.

Kids enjoying our garden kale! They love it!

In October, the students are beginning work on their flower press books. The first lesson included a flower identification game and more garden exploration!
