Goodbye Spring, Hello Summer: Showcases and Celebrations

It was a busy spring-to-summer at EB! From captivating performances to experiential learning trips, our community came together this season to highlight talent, promote inclusivity, and celebrate our diverse identities.
Among the highlights from April to June:

  • The Spring Showcase was a school-wide event that brought together students from all grades and classes to exhibit their creativity and hard work.
  • The Kindergarten animations by Margot and Beatrice's K-C class stole hearts worldwide with their imaginative storytelling and artistic flair. Watch two enchanting videos that showcase the boundless creativity of these young minds.

  • G4 Students were recognized for their accomplishments as winners of Le Festival du court-métrage scientifique 2023, a FestyFilm competition, with their video project "Les mystérieuses cordes vocales". Visit the site here and read about the process on our Blog in English or French.

  • Meanwhile, our Middle School students ventured into the world of podcasting, delivering captivating content on the subject of media literacy and podcasting itself.

  • The sixth-grade poetry and art presentations were but one example of the immersive learning EB is known for. Witness the beauty of language and visual arts combined as G6 students share their poetry in French while displaying their art. Introductions from their teachers, Julie Eloy-Defauw and Kathryn Thai, add a special insight.

  • End-of-the year plays are always a treasured moment. We were lucky enough to capture these two performances, from retiring first grade teachers, Virginie and Marie-Anne. Be forewarned.. It may make you hungry!

  • TEDxYouth@EB, now in its ninth year, is a signature program we are proud to offer our Middle School students. This opportunity to research a focused topic, develop a plan, practice with support, then present on a world stage is a perfect example of the multifaceted and impactful EB experience we strive to offer. This year’s TEDxYouth@EB Committee members have already begun to help prepare rising G7 and G8 students for next year’s event by reflecting on what Possibility means to them. We are pleased to be working with a widely accomplished group of parents as coaches and producers to continue elevating the TEDxYouth experience for the January 2024 production. Take a look at this compilation of moments from the December 2022 TedxYouth@EB.

  • Spring also provided opportunities for experiential learning outside the classroom. From the first overnight trip to Marin Headlands in G3 all the way to Paris in G8, experiential learning is a cornerstone of the EB experience. Here is a peek into one much-anticipated milestone of the EB Middle School: the annual G6 trip to Catalina Island.

  • The Francophone Spotlights in April, May and June helped transport us to far corners of the Francophone world. With profiles on Haiti, New Caledonia, and Morocco we learned more about each of their vibrant contributions to the global Francophone community, spanning food, language and colonial history.
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is another cornerstone of the EB, “whole child” experience. Join counselor Raina as she recommends books and videos for Mental Health Awareness Month. Additionally, hear from Christopher about the mindfulness journals that G1-G3 students have been working on throughout the semester, which they’ve now taken home with them.

  • Underlying everything we do, EB strives to view our impact through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. From Mental Health Awareness Month to celebrating Caribbean American Heritage, Pride Month, APIDA, and Jewish American Heritage Month, we stood together to recognize and appreciate the unique contributions of these communities through our Diverse Reads recommendations as well as “Young and Gifted Change Makers” profiled in the classroom.
