Committees of the Board​​​​​​​

The Board of Directors has a number of standing and ad hoc committees composed of trustees, parents, and community members selected based on the skills that they bring.

Current parents interested in joining a committee, please contact the Board Chair at ebboardchair@eb.org. Each committee has key responsibilities fundamental to the well-being of the school.

Executive Committee

This committee coordinates, with the Board Chair, the work of the board, taking the lead in planning the board’s agenda. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, with the Board Chair, the work of the board, taking the lead in planning the board’s agenda
  • Serves as a sounding board for the Head of School and evaluates the HOS
  • Acts in place of the board between board meetings as prescribed 
  • Reports any actions it takes to the board in a timely fashion

Organization and Governance Committee

This committee oversees the growth and development of the board. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees succession planning, including identification, recruitment, cultivation, selection and orientation of new trustees
  • Facilitates the board’s self-assessment, education, and training
  • Determines the need for bylaw changes and solicits board approval of bylaw changes and trustee nominations

Development Committee

This committee coordinates the school’s fund-raising activities. All trustees are involved in fund development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advises the board on the financial goals of fundraising campaigns
  • Reviews the case statement for all fundraising appeals
  • Facilitates trustee and other volunteer involvement in fund- and friend-raising activities
  • Raises funds

Development Committee

Finance Committee

This committee ensures the long-term financial health of the school in two areas, finance and investments. In concert with the Head and the Business Officer, the finance committee develops the long-range financial plan and yearly operational budget. It may include outside experts on finances and financial planning.

  • Sets tuition levels for board approval
  • Monitors the implementation of the budget
  • Makes periodic reports to the board on the school’s financial status
  • Educates the board on nonprofit financial reporting and trends affecting the school’s finances

Investments Subcommittee
A subcommittee of the finance committee oversees investments. This subcommittee develops and recommends to the board for its approval policies that delineate how the school will invest its financial resources

  • Monitors the investment portfolio’s return, including setting investment objectives and meeting with the professional advise
  • Makes periodic reports to the board on the endowment’s performance.

Buildings and Grounds Committee

This committee oversees the growth and development of the school’s buildings and grounds. 

  • Designs and oversees implementation of the master plan for the school’s physical plant
  • Recommends to the Board and the Finance Committee how assets should be allocated to maintain and enhance the plant

Strategic Marketing Committee

The Strategic Marketing Committee’s goal is to support the school’s marketing team to ensure that adopted marketing strategies & actions promote EB’s sustainability (short and long term) through successful admissions, retention, communication and outreach efforts.
