Return to School & COVID-19 Safety Plan
Beginning on Monday, October 26, after the break, we will start welcoming our elementary school students back to campus for in-person instruction. This updated format follows the City of Berkeley's new Health Order (released October 2) which allows Berkeley schools to return to in-person, on-campus instruction for elementary school-age students, starting October 13, 2020.
Our elementary students will gradually return to school and join our preschool and kindergarten students who have been learning on campus for the past six weeks.
Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and is taking proactive and prudent measures to ensure the health and safety of every member of our community in accordance with the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Alameda County Department of Public Health, the French authorities, the World Health Organization, and other health officials.
The World is Our Community
Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley is a preschool to 8th grade French-American school.
As a recognized leader in international bilingual education, EB integrates the rigor and excellence of a French curriculum into a dynamic, whole-child education, imbuing students with tenacity, cross-cultural fluency, a deep intellectual capacity and vast stores of kindness.
Internationally Recognized Curriculum
Through the French curriculum, students are taught to respect academic prowess and independent, analytical thinking, with an emphasis on cultural knowledge. From an early age, students learn research, problem solving, and synthesis of information.
Whole Child Approach
The American program adds the best of the current and cutting edge in education today. We integrate the arts and sciences through STEAM, and encourage inquiry through experiential, project-based learning. We educate the whole child, challenging body and mind, meeting their social and emotional needs.
Immersion: Learning by Living
This is not French taught as a second language, but as a first language. Children learn, play, sing, even garden in French. They learn the language effortlessly in an immersion environment, absorbing it as only preschoolers can. We carefully and gradually shift to a bilingual approach at the upper elementary level.
Individualization at Every Moment
We focus on the growth of your child as an individual. Our expert team of instructors and specialists monitors each child’s progress and nurtures them at their level through targeted differentiation. We support each child throughout the school day and beyond.
A Community of Inclusion
Our families hail from 50 different countries, bringing their culture and language with them. In our francophone community, a third of our parents are native French speakers, and a large group speaks a language other than French or English. Community events throughout the year bring families together where they mingle and form friendships that last a lifetime.
Passport to Global Citizenship
We counsel and guide our students through all the steps they might need to thrive in their education, career, and life. EB graduates attend excellent high schools, including French schools in the Bay Area. Through service learning and trips to France and within the U.S., students become global citizens that are at home in the world.
