Enrichment & Athletics Fall News

Mirza Kopelman, Director of Enrichment & Athletics
We are very excited with the news that vaccinations for children ages 5 to 13 are around the corner. Once the vast majority of students (we are not sure what our exact threshold will be) are vaccinated we will allow free movement of children on the playground during recess and aftercare.
Pending Changes in Aftercare for Inclement Weather
As cold and rainy weather approaches, and with daylight savings coming we will be forced to move aftercare indoors for either all or part of aftercare. We will therefore be transitioning to a less rigid separation of students and will be combining certain groups of students together indoors. Info on this is below.

On rainy days, after school snack may be skipped or delayed until rain eases up, as the students should not take off their masks indoors. This will only be during the most intense weather days.
Separation of Grades
We will maintain separation of grades as much as staffing permits. For now we will group students in the following way:
Class A, B and D together
Class C and E together.
Lower School
G1 and G2
In the event that we have extremely heavy rain or smoke we may have to cancel aftercare altogether, for that day. If we were to do this, you would be notified no later than 12pm that day.

Parents on Campus in Aftercare?
We are pleased to announce that we will begin reopening campus to fully vaccinated parents or caretakers for pick up during aftercare. Starting Nov. 15th, adults who are picking up after 3:30 will be able to come onto the campus for a maximum of ten minutes to gather your child and their belongings.

We’ve had a small return to some Athletics here at the Middle School. The EB 7-8th grade flag football team has been in full effect, with 16-20 players finishing their fourth week of football.  They beat the cross-town rivals TBS (The Berkeley School) 19-0 on October 14th at Grove Field -- they are now 2-0! The season will end on 11/09/21.
The 6th grade sports group has finished their third week with 8-10 players.  They have had a good time playing baseball & kickball with football and volleyball to come in the next few weeks.
6-8th grade coed Varsity and JV Basketball will start practice soon and go for three weeks in December on Thursday afternoons.

New Staff
We have some wonderful new staff that we’d like to introduce you all to! Mariana Guzman, Jazmin Gonzalez, and Micha Turner. We’re saying goodbye to one of our new faces Emily Richan who will be moving on in the coming weeks. Please feel free to say hello and introduce yourself to them if you see them at the gates!
