How to Give?
Ecole Bilingue offers many opportunities to contribute to the school. To learn more, contact Mei-Lin Ha Byers, Director of Development, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 510-809-0605.
Parents may make a one-time donation or a recurring monthly gift online. To make a gift to be paid at a later date, parents have the option to make a pledge. EB counts on pledges and appreciates all payments made before May 1, 2021. To learn more, please visit our Annual Fund FAQs page.
The CARES Act gives you a new way to support the EB Annual Fund in 2020. The CARES Act raised the limit of the deduction for an individual or couple filing jointly to 100% of their adjusted gross income in 2020. The contribution must be paid in cash during the calendar year 2020, and the money cannot come from a foundation or donor-advised fund. The CARES Act also allows taxpayers who are not itemizing in 2020 a $300 adjustment to their income for cash contributions made to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, such as the EB Annual Fund.
"However, there have been no changes to existing deductions for contributions made into a donor-advised fund like your Giving Account. This means you are still able to deduct up to 60% AGI in cash and up to 30% AGI in appreciated assets contributed to a donor-advised fund." - Fidelity Charitable
Gifts of Cash
Donations made by cash, check, or credit card are tax-deductible in the year the gift is made (Tax ID 94 2427286). Checks should be made to Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley and mailed to EB Development Office, 1009 Heinz ave. Berkeley, CA 94710.
Gifts of Stock
To contribute the fair market value of appreciated securities and avoid capital gains tax on the appreciated value of stock, parents can make gifts of stock. The attached form should be filled out and sent back to EB Development Office, 1009 Heinz ave. Berkeley, CA 94710.
Parents can make their gift go farther! Many companies offer matching gift programs to double or even triple employee contributions to nonprofits. Parents should check directly with their employer to find out if they participate in matching gifts. Learn more.
Planned giving through estate planning can create a lasting legacy at Ecole Bilingue while helping to minimize taxes. Assets considered for planned gifts include: real estate, retirement plans, stocks and bonds, life insurance policies, privately held securities, personal property, shares of a family business, and saving accounts. The EB Legacy Society honors donors who name EB as the beneficiary of a planned gift, helping to strengthen EB’s endowment for future generations of students.
Giveback Programs While You Shop
EB has created partnerships with local and national retailers who have programs to donate a percentage of sales to EB.
Donate 0.5% of your purchase every time you shop on Amazon by using and bookmarking smile.amazon.com—it adds up! Make sure to select Ecole Bilingue as your charity recipient the first time you order (only needs to be done once). Go to the orange “Supporting” drop down menu underneath the Amazon search bar and search for Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley.
Sign up to become a "Basementeer," so whenever you shop at Sports Basement and mention EB, the store gives back 10% of its proceeds to the school and you get 10% off.
In the eScrip program, participating merchants such as Safeway, Old Navy, Macy’s, Target, or Office Depot return a small percentage of your purchases to EB, at no cost to you. Simply register your credit cards (and other retail cards) with eScrip. When enrolling, please be sure to designate Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley (account number 122395470) as the beneficiary of your gifts. EB asks all families to take a few minutes to register their credit and retail cards. Each purchase can really add up!
