Board of Trustee Intro

Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley’s Board of Trustees is comprised of current parents, the Head of School, staff members, alumni and alumni parents, and individuals drawn from the community at large.

Key Responsibilities

Board responsibilities include:

  • Upholding and safeguarding the school’s mission
  • Selecting, evaluating and supporting the Head of School
  • Assessing the performance of the school
  • Overseeing the school’s financial condition
  • Monitoring facility uses and needs
  • Contributing to the school’s fundraising efforts
  • Supporting the school’s programs and special events
  • Serving as ambassadors for the school in the larger community
  • Undertaking long-range planning to ensure the school’s financial and programmatic health and sustainability

EB’s Board of Trustees does much of its work in committees and meets as a full board roughly once a month between September and June. Learn more about board committees.

Pria Hidisyan

Board of Trustees Co-Chair
Pria joined the EB Board in 2018. She is an urban planner by training with more than a decade’s experience in long range, regional planning and consulting for state agencies and local municipalities, focused on community development and sustainability. Beyond her planning work, she is an active real estate investor in Oakland. Pria graduated with honors from Brown University, and received a master’s degree from the University of Southern California in planning. She and her husband Ben have two children at EB: Arek and Lucine.

MBA, University of Chicago Booth School of Business Mark Westover serves as the chair of the Long-Range Planning Committee. He is the Founder of Nishioba Consulting providing management consulting to early stage start ups. Mark was previously CFO of Xmatters and has held a variety of leadership positions in Strategy, Corporate Development and Finance at LiveOps, Sybase, BearingPoint and AT&T. Mark received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign. He and his wife, Dr. Barbara Galligan, have two children at EB.

M.B.A in Finance and Sustainability, Yale University Nick Waugh serves as the chair of the Finance Committee. He is an investment banker in the Higher Education & Nonprofit group at George K. Baum & Co where he provides underwriting and financial advisory services to colleges, universities and other institutions. Nick was previously a Director in the Education group at Standard & Poor’s where he rated nonprofit institutions. Before that, he consulted companies on their social and environmental practices at Business for Social Responsibility. Nick received his B.A. in economics from Williams College and his M.B.A from Yale University. He and his wife Riley Bove have two children at EB.

MSc in Global Marketing, Staffordshire University Alexandra Thusy-Privat is the founder and CEO at Peek a Green LLC, an online green boutique for babies and children since 2008. Before that, Alexandra worked as Vice President & General Manager at WDHB Consulting Group for five years and as a Management Consultant for two years. Alexandra holds a BA in Business from the Université de Savoie, as well as a Master in Marketing from l’Institut d’Etudes Supérieures de Marketing and a MSc in Global Marketing from Staffordshire University. Alexandra and her husband have one child at EB.

M.A. in English and history, University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg Michael Pincus has worked in education in South Africa, Australia and the U.S.A. since 1972. In this capacity, he has taught and been a school administrator. He gained his B.A. and B.A.(Honours) degrees – the latter is equivalent to a M.A.– at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, majoring in English and history. His post-graduate work was done in history with a focus on the emergence of separate development in the urban areas of South Africa. There he also gained his teaching credential. From July 2000 to present, he was Assistant Head and Continuing Head of the Upper School (fourth through eighth grade) at Saint Mark’s School in San Rafael.

Jean-Philippe Kouakou-Zebouah

MA in Financial Engineering, ESSEC Business School Jean-Philippe Kouakou-Zebouah served as the co-chair of the Long-Range Planning Committee. He was born in the Ivory Coast and grew up in Paris, France where he completed his undergraduate (CNAM-Paris) and graduate (Essec-Paris) studies in Accounting and Financial Engineering respectively. He also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Jean-Philippe has 20+ year experience in Forensic Auditing, Corporate Finance, Financial Planning & Analysis and Strategic Consulting. He and his wife Jesica have one daughter at EB.

Aaron Ross

B.A. in Philosophy, Cornell University Aaron Ross has served as Talend’s General Counsel since August 2015. Prior to joining Talend, Aaron held senior in-house legal roles at technology companies Flex, Atmel and Technicolor. Prior to going in-house, Aaron was an associate in the London and Paris offices of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and the San Francisco offices of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Cornell University and a J.D. from the U.C. Berkeley School of Law.

Certified Fraud Examiner Steve Levine is an EB alumni parent. He served on the EB Parent Association Board for many years and also chaired many committees served in numerous other volunteer positions at the school.

David Abernathy

David Abernathy is an alumnus of Ecole Bilingue.  He attended the school for 10 years, graduating in 1999.  He works as Executive Vice President for Business Solutions at a cannabis data, analytics, and research firm and has spent more than a decade in the fields of cannabis investment and market research.  Since his time at EB, David has founded and/or led three companies and five nonprofit organizations.  In addition to his position on EB's board of trustees, David sits on the board of directors of a nonprofit cat rescue and serves as co-chair of the Finance Committee at the Minority Cannabis Business Association.  He also teaches Economics at Oaksterdam University and co-owns a miniature golf company called Subpar Miniature Golf.

Alexandre Bayen

Alexandre Bayen joined the board in 2019. He is the Liao-Cho Professor of Engineering at UC Berkeley. He is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is currently the Director of the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS). He is also a Faculty Scientist in Mechanical Engineering, at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). He received the Engineering Degree in applied mathematics from the Ecole Polytechnique, France, in 1998, the M.S. and Ph.D. in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University in 1998 and 1999 respectively. He was a Visiting Researcher at NASA Ames Research Center from 2000 to 2003. Between January 2004 and December 2004, he worked as the Research Director of the Autonomous Navigation Laboratory at the Laboratoire de Recherches Balistiques et Aerodynamiques, (Ministere de la Defense, Vernon, France), where he holds the rank of Major. He has been on the faculty at UC Berkeley since 2005. Bayen has authored two books and over 200 articles in peer reviewed journals and conferences.

Christine Beliveau

Bachelor of Commerce and Graduate in Accountancy, Concordia University Christine served on the Finance Committee before joining the Board. Christine is originally from Quebec, Canada and moved to the Bay Area in 2000. She is a CPA and after more than 20 years in public accounting and consulting firms, is now the Director of Forensic Accounting Services at Morrison & Foerster LLP. At MoFo, Christine specializes in providing assistance with internal and SEC investigations, cases involving the securities law, and other disputes involving accounting issues. Christine and her husband, Neill, have one son who is starting Kindergarten at EB in the Fall of 2018.

Antoine Carrière

MA in Management, HEC Business School Paris Antoine Carriere is a French citizen who emigrated to the US in 2007, he has worked in corporate finance as an analyst, in management consulting, and in the Internet sector (as founder of a web start up, and in the past five years as a manager at Google). Antoine is passionate about resolving growing pains in highly uncertain environments. He identifies priorities, gets the basics right (people, KPIs, processes, decisions), jumps in as needed, then ensures that scaling the business results in further efficiency gains without compromising execution velocity. The three values he puts on top of everything else in business are Insight, Impact, and Trust. At home, Antoine is married and has three children, including two at EB.

Alexandra Erman

Alexandra joined the Board in 2019 after three years on the Finance Committee. Alexandra is French and has been in the USA since 2006. She currently serves as Agorapulse's Head of People, Finance and Administration, she also helps SMBs as a consultant. Prior to this she was with CeramConcept as Head of Finance and Administration. She started her carreer as an art dealer and small business owner. Alexandra was a lifer at Ecole Active Bilingue Jeanine Manuel in Paris. She has two boys at EB.

Pascal Hoffmann

MBA, Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, Master of Engineering, École Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées (ENSTA ParisTech) in Paris Pascal Hoffmann grew up in France and spent most of his adult life in the Bay Area. Pascal has 20+ years of professional experience in strategic planning, sales and marketing, and management consulting, most recently with McKinsey and Accenture. Pascal is passionate about learning and teaching. He started teaching Mathematics in High School, taught Financial Derivatives in the ESCP Business school in Paris, and taught several professional courses. He earned an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and a Master of Engineering from École Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées (ENSTA ParisTech) in Paris. Pascal and his spouse Tegan have two sons, one of whom is at EB.

Kristen Sidell

Kristen Sidell joined the Board in 2019 and serves as the chair of the Buildings & Grounds Committee. She is a principal at Sidell Pakravan Architects, where she designs a range of residential and commercial spaces. Kristen also teaches architecture as an Adjunct Professor at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Kristen received her M.Arch. from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Fine Arts and holds a B.A. in Art History from Stanford University. She and her husband, Paul Abboud, have two children at EB.

Hannah Stott-Bumsted

Hannah Stott-Bumsted joined the EB Board in 2019. She is currently a partner at the Brunswick Group. Hannah joined Brunswick from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she was the Counselor to the Deputy Secretary and advised on a number of high-profile policy and programmatic issues. Before joining the Department of Health and Human Services, Hannah was a senior official at the Department of the Treasury. Prior to joining the government, Hannah practiced law at Williams & Connolly and represented dozens of companies in adversarial matters, including litigations, investigations, and arbitrations. Hannah has two sons at EB.

Alex has been a memeber of the EB community since 2014 and joined the board in 2019. She teaches Geology and Environmental Science at St. Mary's College. She holds a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley, and a PhD in Geology from Columbia University

Michelle Mebine

Faculty Representative
Michelle currently teaches 4th grade at EB and has been a teacher here since 2006. She has also taught in the first, second, and third grades, as well as in ELL. She was born and raised in Berkeley, and graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in French. She continued her studies at San Francisco State University, where she received her multiple subject teaching credential. Nature is her sanctuary and backpacking is the best hotel in the world. She loves working at EB — where she gets to ignite children's curiosity and travel the world everyday by connecting with so many different cultures right here in her classroom.

Patrice is from Côte d'Ivoire. He graduated from Ecole Normale Superieure and University from Abidjan with a bachelor degree in literature and a teaching credentials. He works for few year in Abidjan as a French teacher in high school and a technical institution. He joined EB in 1997. He is passionate about sport and coaches soccer. He cares about his family and friends. He has two kids at EB, King in G2, and Prince in TPS. He enjoys spending some times walking in the nature or fishing and reading.
