Giovana is originally from Mexico and has lived in the Bay Area most of her life. She holds a degree in Liberal Studies Preparation for Teaching from San Jose State University. She has always enjoyed working with children, and that is one of the reasons she decided to pursue a degree in the field of Education. She has worked in several educational programs throughout the bay area, San Jose, San Ramon, Berkeley and San Pablo. When she is not working, she loves to spend time with her family, hiking, exploring new places, taking pictures and creating new memories that will last a lifetime.
Middle School Science Teacher
Jamie Bascom earned her BA in Integrative biology in 1999, Masters and PhD from U.C. Berkeley in Endocrinology in 2006. She graduated from Lake Elsinore High School in Southern California in 1994. Before becoming a science teacher, Jamie worked for over ten years as a researcher in cell, development and cancer biology at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Jamie earned a teaching credential in chemistry and biology from UCLA in 2013. Jamie has taught chemistry for three years at Lighthouse Community Charter School in East Oakland, biology and biotechnology at Berkeley High School for one year, and biology, physiology and genetics at Mills College in Oakland over three years. Jamie’s interests include hiking, trail running, and backpacking with her sons and husband in the Eastern Sierras.

Maer has been working in technology in independent K-12 education since 2000, more than half of which occurred at French bilingual schools. He holds a BSS in IT Management and an MA in Educational Technology. Maer joined EB in 2016.

Middle School Spanish Teacher
Patricia Camacho is from Monterrey, Nuevo León, an industrial city in the north east of Mexico. She holds a B.A. in Mass Communication from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, ITESM. Patricia worked as a journalist in her country, as well as a radio announcer, and voice-over actress. However, her real passion was education. She started working as a Mass Communication high school teacher at Instituto San Angel in Mexico City. In 1998 she moved to Berkeley where she got married and had a child, now in 8th grade. She worked at Berkeley Adult School as a bilingual test placement support; Centro Latino and Mesoamerica Institute in Berkeley as a Spanish teacher; and Chinese American International School in San Francisco as a middle school Spanish teacher. In 2002 she was hired at EB as middle school Spanish teacher. She is pursuing her MA in Applied Linguistic to Teaching Spanish as a Second Language at “Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana”. She loves reading, watching movies, and taking long walks with her daughter.
Elementary French Teacher & Student Support Specialist
Bénédicte holds a State Diploma of Psychometrics. She worked as an occupational therapist in a special needs school (motor and sensory disabilities, dysphasia). Then Bénédicte obtained her teaching credentials and taught several years in France before being hired at EB in 1997 where she taught mostly first grade. She has been part of the G1-G2 « looping » team for 8 years before working with the Student Support Team and the Lower School Faculty to improve the students’ experience. Bénédicte and her husband Mark have two daughters: Clarisse and Amélie.
