This year at the Middle School, for the first time ever, TEDx was held as a virtual event. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED Talk-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYouth@EB, where x = independently organized TED event. This year the theme was “Uncharted.” Speakers pre-recorded speeches to be sure to maintain sound and video quality and then met live on the first two Tuesdays in December in order to encourage audience members to pose questions in the chat to the speakers. At the end of the program, speakers and the audience members participated in breakout sessions where they discussed the talks in small groups. Facilitating the night as the host was EB parent and KQED’s own, Brian Watt.
This year’s collection of wonderful speakers included 7th graders Divya Ben-David, Kylie Chew, Jules Droz, Juniper Hedlund, Maddy Kelly, Samantha Kirk, and Bodie Oakley and 8th-graders Clara Bartlett and Mary Maelle Griffen. The Middle School was also fortunate to hear from alumni speakers, Kate Solomon Tilly and Meaghan McGrath. Thanks to all who made these very special nights possible. Videos of all the talks will be available soon!
