This year, French Middle School teacher Emmanuel Labadie has built bridges between the Lower and the Middle School. Some 7th and 8th graders go visit some Kindergarten and 5th grade classrooms to encourage the love of reading (in French!).
“This experience is very good for the Middle School students’ self esteem around their French speaking skills” says Emmanuel Labadie. It is also a great way to prepare the Middle Schoolers to the DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) exam that assesses the students’ oral, written and reading skills in French in 8th grade.
For the younger students, this experience fosters in them a love of reading as they see they older peers read to them in a language that they are themselves learning.
All the students benefit from this experience but reading and discovering books that they might not have been keen on initially such as novels and more classical work such as Le Roman de la Momie de Théophile Gautier, Les Trois Mousquetaires d'Alexandre Dumas et Vingt Mille Lieues sous les Mers de Jules Verne.
