Music Update

The first few weeks of school were a moment for the new French music teacher to get to know her new students and vice-versa. Students started the year by discovering and studying pieces of classical music such as Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart Clarinet Concerto in A - Second movement, and the Winter part of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Anne Kuhry teaches her 8th graders to sing "Parce qu'on vient de loin" from French-Canadian soul singer Corneille.

Along with studying those pieces, they learned specific vocabulary “Concerto”, “fugue”, “basse continue”, “choeur mixte”, “chant syllabique”.

Students are also working on specific projects:

In 6th grade: a cross-disciplinary project between music and drama

In 7th and 8th grade: a “body percussion” project where students use their bodies to create percussion-like sounds.

Additionally, the newly formed Middle School afterschool choir has some very talented participants!
