Applying for Bourses Scolaires
Completed applications for the French Bourses Scolaires for 2018-19 school year must be received by the French Consulate. Families already residing in the United States must apply by February 28, 2018 and is the same for new applicants and for continuing EB students. Families living outside the Bay Area should contact the Consulate for more information.
Note that to be able to apply your child(ren) must be registered with the French Consulate and at least 3 years old by December 31 the year of the application. Please keep in mind that the timing of Bourses Scolaires is different from the timing of the EB’s admission decision. You must submit a Bourses application to the consulate by February 28, 2018. Do not wait for EB’s admission decision to apply for Bourses Scolaires and do not wait to apply for Bourses Scolaires before applying to EB.
Step 1: Fill out Application and Gather Supporting Documents
- 2018-2019 Bourses Application form and list of documents to submit with the application form.
- Supporting documents to provide in the application
- IRS form 8821 (Please write in the “Appointee”: Consulat General de France 88 Kearny Street San Francisco CA 94108)
Please be aware that the list of supporting documents is quite long and includes completed 2017 tax returns (1040 and 540). All Bourse applicants should begin preparing their applications well in advance of the deadline.
Step 2: Application Review by EB
The consulate requires that all Bourse applications be reviewed by an EB employee for completeness and accuracy prior to the submission deadline. These meetings take place during the months of January and February; we recommend scheduling yours well in advance.

Prospective families and new Bourses applicants should contact Antoine Portales for an appointment. In your email to Antoine, please propose several dates and times and please write in the subject line “Bourses”.
Step 3: Meeting at the French Consulate (new applicants only)
New Bourses Scolaires applicants must also meet with an official at the French Consulate. The meeting must take place before the deadline, and preferably after meeting with Antoine Portales as the application must be finalized for the meeting. Please make an appointment by email: Linda CHABOUD
Step 4: Review by the Commissions des Bourses
EB or parents submit all completed applications to the Consulate in San Francisco. Final decisions are communicated in June or July by the Consulate. If the timing of the final decision has the potential to create issues for a new applicant, this can be discussed with Antoine Portales during their meeting.
