We are honored to know that you are considering EB for your child’s education. Here is what you need to know to reserve your spot at the school and pay the tuition.
Inclusivity is one of EB’s core value and one of the way we achieve diversity is by dedicating a generous amount of the school’s budget to need-based tuition assistance. Read below to learn more about our tuition assistance program as well as the “bourses scolaires” available specifically to French citizens.
A non-refundable reservation fee of 10% must accompany the enrollment agreement. Thereafter tuition payments are made using FACTS Tuition Management company which offers a secure and compliant system for processing family payments.
For the balance of tuition and fees EB offers the choice of four payment options:
Option 1. One automatic payment
The payment has to be made by June 20, 2018. This will include a $100 early payment reduction. The school recommends using FACTS to make your payment. There is no fee associated with this option 1.
Option 2. Two automatic payments
The first payment will be on either June 5, 2018 or June 20, 2018 (the first payment will include 45% of tuition plus all other fees as per the enrollment contract, e.g.the one-time Enrollment fee, the Tuition Refund Insurance premium, the technology and trip fees if applicable). The second payment will be on September 5, 2018 (if the first payment was on June 5) or September 20, 2018 (if the first payment was on June 20). There is a $10 fee to use the FACTS company for option 2 but the fee is paid by EB.
Option 3. Twelve equal Automatic Tuition Payments
The payments start in June 2018 and end in May 2019 (families will have the choice between the 5th or the 20th of the month). The FACTS Company will assess parents a $45 annual fee for option 3 and EB will charge interest on the unpaid balance at the monthly rate of 0.42% (5% per annum), for example a Preschool student would be charged $$725 in interest for the year. The interest rate will be half that much if Student is a recipient of Financial Aid or Bourses Scolaires.
Option 4. Four equal Automatic Tuition Payments
The payments start in June 2018 and end at the latest in September 2018. (Parents have the choice between the 5th or the 20th of the month.) The FACTS Company will assess parents a $45 annual fee for option 4. EB will not assess interest on option 4.
Please note that Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley does not accept credit card payments for fees (we accept credit card payments for donations) and that payments made to EB through FACTS are to be made using a checking or savings account.
Approximately 16% of the operating budget is spent on tuition assistance. Students receive need-based assistance from either the French government and/or EB’s financial assistance program. Financial assistance from these two programs combined is above the aid levels at other East Bay schools and continues to foster the diversity that is a valuable outcome of the EB experience.
The first need-based financial aid program is EB’s internal program, and covers up to 55% of tuition, technology fee and trips. EB’s financial aid program is available to all students without regard to gender, race, color, religion or national origin. French nationals eligible to receive financial aid from the French government are encouraged to apply with the Consulate at the same time than they apply to EB financial aid.
For currently enrolled families, completed applications for EB’s financial aid are due January 15, 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year. For new families, applications for admissions and for financial aid should happen at approximately the same time. In other words, please do not wait for your admission acceptance letter to apply for financial aid and vice versa. Click here to learn more about how to apply or re-apply to EB Financial Aid.
Bourses Scolaires is a program administered by the French government and is for French families residing in the US, whose children are registered with the Consulate. This program covers up to 100% of tuition based on demonstrated financial need. We are thankful to the French Government for its very generous contributions, which enhances EB’s socio-economic diversity.
New families and continuing families must apply by February 28 for the following school year. Click here to learn more about how to apply or re-apply to French bourses scolaires.
