A Typical Day in Preschool and Kindergarten

 

A TYPICAL DAY IN PRESCHOOL

Instruction is in French with one hour of English daily.

ARRIVAL
  • 7:30 - 8:15: Extended Day care available.
  • 8:15 - 8:45: Children are brought into the classroom by their parents, signed in, and welcomed by the teachers. Time for the children to socialize with friends.
MORNING ACTIVITIES
  • Free choice; time to socialize with peers.
  • Clean-up, followed by circle time. This first hour of instruction can be in French or English.
  • Recess. (Snack is provided by the school.)
  • Story time.
  • Organized activities. These activities may start with a circle time to re-focus the students. They can be large or small group activities.
  • Organized gross motor activities in the mini-gym or on the playground.
  • LUNCH
  • PK students eat lunch from 11:30 to 12:00 and have recess from 12:00 to 12:30.
  • MK students eat lunch from 12:00 to 12:30 and have recess from 12:30 to 1:00.
AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES
  • Preparation for rest time: bathroom, hand-washing, and setting up beds.
  • Quiet time or nap time. Some children nap longer than others. Children who do not nap can engage in arts and crafts, science or gardening.
  • Clean-up time and short circle before leaving to review the day’s activities, look at art projects, or sing songs.
DISMISSAL
  • 3:10 - 3:30: Dismissal from the preschool playground. Children must be signed out.
  • 3:30 - 6:00: Extended Day care available.
 

 


A TYPICAL DAY IN KINDERGARTEN

Instruction is in French with one hour of English daily.

ARRIVAL
  • 7:30-8:00: Extended Day care available
  • 8:00 - 8:25: Arrival. Social time with friends in the courtyard. Classrooms closed.
  • 8:25: The bell rings, students line up and teachers accompany students to class
  • 8:30: Class begins.
MORNING SCHEDULE
  • 8:30 - 8:45: Free activity
  • 8:45 - 9:30 Circle time and workgroups
  • 9:25 - 9:50: Recess
  • 9:50 - 10:00: Snack
  • 10:00 - 11:30: Directed activities. These activities may begin with a circle time to refocus the students. They can be large group activities where every student is engaged in a common project or small group activities where students are engaged in a variety of projects.
LUNCH

11:30 - 12:30: Lunch / recess.

AFTERNOON SCHEDULE
  • 12:30 - 12:45: Quiet time, which includes quiet reading or listening to music 
  • 12:45 - 1:30: Arts and Crafts, Science or Physical Education
  • 1:30 - 2:00: Recess
  • 2:00 - 3:05: Continuation of activities
  • 3:10 - 3:30: Dismissal from the classroom
DISMISSAL
  • 3:30 - 6:00: Extended Day care available.
